How Much Are Etsy Fees?
A typical Etsy sale has three fees: a listing fee, a transaction fee, and a payment processing fee. For a US seller without Offsite Ads, that adds up to about 9.5% of the order plus $0.45. The table shows the fees that apply to US sellers who list and get paid in US dollars.
| Fee | Amount | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | When you publish or renew a listing, and for each extra item sold in the same order |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% | On the order total, including the shipping and gift wrap you charge |
| Payment processing | 3% + $0.25 | On the total sale price, including shipping and sales tax if you charge tax on the listing |
| Offsite Ads | 15% or 12% | Only on orders that come from an Offsite Ad, capped at $100 per order |
| Currency conversion | 2.5% | Only when your listing currency differs from your bank account currency |
Etsy Ads, shipping labels bought on Etsy, and the one-time shop setup fee are also charged to your account, but they don’t depend on the sale price. Treat them as part of your costs.
How to Calculate Etsy Fees
Add the item price and the shipping you charge to get the order total. Etsy’s percentage fees are based on that total, not just the item price.
Etsy fees = $0.20 + (Order total × 6.5%) + (Order total × 3%) + $0.25
Example: you sell a $25 item and charge $5 for shipping, so the order total is $30.
| Fee on a $30 order | Without Offsite Ads | With a 15% Offsite Ad |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 | $0.20 |
| Transaction fee | $1.95 | $1.95 |
| Payment processing | $1.15 | $1.15 |
| Offsite Ads fee | $0.00 | $4.50 |
| Total Etsy fees | $3.30 (11%) | $7.80 (26%) |
If the item costs $8 to make and postage costs $4.50, you keep $14.20 on a normal sale. On a sale from an Offsite Ad, you keep $9.70. That’s why it pays to price with the ad fee in mind if your shop is enrolled.
How to Price Etsy Listings to Cover Fees
Adding your fees on top of your cost leaves you short, because Etsy charges a percentage of the final price. Instead, divide your costs by what’s left after fees and your target margin.
Order total = (Cost to make + Postage + $0.45) ÷ (1 − 9.5% − Offsite Ads % − Target margin)
Item price = Order total − Shipping you charge
- Add your cost to make, the postage you pay, and Etsy’s fixed $0.45.
- Subtract the 9.5% in percentage fees, any Offsite Ads rate, and your target margin from 100%.
- Divide the first number by the second, then subtract the shipping you charge.
With an $8 cost, $4.50 postage, $5 shipping charge, and a 30% target margin, the order total is $12.95 ÷ 0.605 = $21.40. You’d list the item at $16.40. The Price for Profit tab runs this math for you, including the $100 cap on Offsite Ads fees.

When You Pay the Etsy Offsite Ads Fee
Etsy advertises some listings on sites such as Google and social media. You only pay when an order comes from one of those ads.
- 15% fee if your shop made less than $10,000 on Etsy in the past 365 days. You can opt out at this level.
- 12% fee once your shop has made $10,000 or more in the past 365 days. At this level, the program is required.
- $100 cap per order, however large the order is.
Since you can’t predict which orders will come from an ad, check your price at both rates. If your profit on an ad sale is close to zero, raise your price or look for ways to lower your costs.
How to Lower Your Etsy Fees
- Price shipping to match your postage. Shipping is charged fees like the item price, so don’t pad it to hide costs.
- Raise your average order value. The $0.45 in fixed fees takes a bigger share of a $10 order than a $40 one. Sets and bundles help.
- Turn off auto-renew on slow listings. Each renewal costs another $0.20.
- Decide on Offsite Ads deliberately. Under $10,000 a year, compare the extra sales with the 15% fee before you stay in.
- Sell higher-value pieces. Personalized items made with a laser engraver can carry a higher price, so Etsy’s fees take a smaller bite of your profit.
- Add another sales channel. Your own website or local markets have different fees. See our guide to Etsy alternatives.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does Etsy take per sale?
For a US seller without Offsite Ads, Etsy takes a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee, and 3% + $0.25 for payment processing. On a $30 order, that’s $3.30, or 11% of the order.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the 3% payment processing fee both apply to the shipping you charge the buyer.
Is the Etsy listing fee charged for every item sold?
You pay $0.20 when you publish or renew a listing. If a buyer orders more than one of an item, Etsy charges $0.20 for each extra item in the order.
Can I turn off Etsy Offsite Ads?
Yes, if your shop made less than $10,000 on Etsy in the past 365 days. Once you pass $10,000, Offsite Ads are required and the fee drops to 12%.
What is a good profit margin on Etsy?
It depends on what you sell and how much of your own time is already counted in your costs. This calculator rates the margin left after Etsy fees, materials, labor, and postage: under 10% is low, 20% or more is healthy, and 35% or more is strong. Below 10%, a single Offsite Ads sale or refund can wipe out your profit.
Does this calculator work for sellers outside the US?
The listing and transaction fees are the same worldwide, but payment processing rates differ by country, and some countries add a regulatory operating fee. Replace the defaults with the rates on your own Etsy account.
